I’m Helen Cochrane, a contemporary artist based in Murwillumbah in Northern NSW.

I work primarily in acrylic on canvas, painting horses, wildlife, animals, people and other subjects inspired by the natural world and my own experiences. Whatever I’m painting, I’m drawn to realism — but just as importantly, I want to capture the character and presence of my subject.

I began formal art studies in 2018 and since then have developed my practice and exhibited throughout the Northern Rivers. Along the way, my work has received First Prize, People’s Choice Awards two years running, as well as Highly Commended recognition for three paintings.

I also love working on commissions. While horses and wildlife feature strongly in my work, I’m certainly not limited to them. I’ve painted pets, people and family portraits, and I’m always happy to explore something completely different.

For me, a commission is about creating something personal — whether that’s a much-loved animal, someone important to you, or a moment you want to hold onto.
