Jen Urquhart

I've always been fascinated by the quiet beauty found in everyday objects. A simple ceramic jug, a piece of fruit, folded fabric or the reflection in a polished vase can become something extraordinary when you take the time to really look.

Working exclusively in coloured pencil, I create highly detailed still life artworks that explore light, texture, colour and composition. The unique qualities of coloured pencil allow me to build rich layers and subtle depth, creating drawings that are often mistaken for oil paintings.

Sharing this medium with others is just as rewarding as creating my own work. Through small group workshops held in my peaceful Stonehaven studio, I love showing people what's possible with coloured pencil. Seeing someone discover the depth, richness and versatility of the medium for the first time is one of my favourite parts of teaching.

My work has been recognised internationally, including winning the UKCPS Pat Heffer Award (2025), appearing on the cover of International Artist Magazine (2021), Colored Pencil Magazine (2024), Color Magazine (2026) and being selected as a finalist in the Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award.
