Nyati — Swahili for buffalo — takes its name from the powerful animal Helen encountered while on safari in Uganda.
Among an entire herd of water buffalo, this particular fellow demanded her attention. His sheer presence, strength and intense stare set him apart — formidable, wild and unmistakably not an animal to underestimate.
It was that encounter Helen wanted to capture on canvas. Rather than simply portraying the physical strength of the buffalo, she focused on the serious character and commanding expression of an individual animal that had made such an impression on her.
