Stan - My Drover Mate

$2,750.00

Stan – My Drover Mate is Helen's tribute to a man she met during an unforgettable journey through the Australian outback.

In 2002, during Australia's Year of the Outback, Helen joined a spectacular reenactment of the historic Birdsville–Marree cattle drive, organised to raise funds for Kids with Cancer and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Stan was one of the head drovers on the drive, and Helen photographed him during the experience — an image that would later become the reference for this painting.

Portrayed in his working clothes and broad-brimmed hat, with a mob of cattle stretching across the landscape behind him, Stan's weathered face and steady gaze speak to a lifetime of experience on the stock routes.

For Helen, the painting is both a personal tribute to her drover mate and a celebration of the remarkable characters who have kept Australia's droving traditions alive. Meeting Stan and experiencing life on the stock route left a lasting impression on her — one she has now captured on canvas.

  • Medium: Painting / Acrylic / Finished with Satin Varnish

  • Dimensions: 92cm W x 122cm H

  • Unframed / Ready to Hang
